Summis Desiderantes Regula Innocentii VIIIi Bullata Pars Prima

Innocentius Pontifex Maximus OctavusInnocentius episcopus servus servorum dei.

Innocent, Bishop, Servant of Servants of God, to future memory: Desiring with the highest affections, as required by our pastoral concerns, that the Catholic Faith should, most importantly, be allowed to grow and flourish for all time, and that all heretical depravity be expelled far from the boundaries of the faithful. We gladly declare and also allow anew the ways and means of this sort through which our avowed, pious desire can be made effective. For this reason, it is through the ministry of all our work weeding out errors (as if by the spade of a cautious gardiner) that the zeal and observation of a united faith be most strongly imprinted into the hearts of the faithful themselves.
